From the sagas of Iceland and the runestones of Sweden to Finland’s Kalevala and the sacred groves of Estonia, the North holds a living memory of myth and nature intertwined.

Mythic North Project explores this shared heritage — uniting folklore, sacred landscapes, and travel routes across the Nordic and Baltic worlds:
Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, and beyond to the Faroe Islands and other lands shaped by Norse influence.

Through stories, maps, and guides, we seek to illuminate how these traditions still breathe in mountains, stones, and sea — and how travelers today can rediscover them with respect and wonder.

Denmark – Where Sea, Stone, and Story Endure

Denmark’s gentle coastlines and low-lying landscapes may seem calm, but beneath those green fields and silent waters lies a world where myth meets memory. Here, ancestors carved runes into stone, built ring fortresses on grassy promontories, and sailed across the sea in dragon-prowed ships. Though a thousand years have passed, the echo of that world still rings through the wind and tide. Carved in Stone: The Jelling Heritage At Jelling in Jutland rise two monumental runestones, raised in the 10th century by royal hands. The elder stone honors Queen Thyra , “Denmark’s pride,” while the larger — raised by King Harald Bluetooth — proclaims the unification of Denmark and the adoption of the new faith. Their carved beasts, spirals, and runic bands speak a language older than parchment: one of memory and power.
